The Ranch Freefly League
Organized by Team Isis
isisfreefly@aol.com
Karina Kuregian, Shannon Connors, Miguel Torres

Requirements:
Participants MUST be able to sit fly and dock. If you do not have a partner we will help find you one.

Intro:
The basic idea of the league is to challenge ourselves and improve our skills while learning about freefly competition. The league is set up for 2 way teams as we feel it is the best and safest way to improve freefly skills.

We are planning 5 events between May and September. The competition will be held on one weekend day a month (dates TBA). Each team will perform 3 jumps and will be judged at the end of the day. Members of Team Isis will be performing video for the rounds, as well as other videographers at the Ranch, but you may choose to use your own camera person as well.

On league days, we will randomly draw 3 moves from the dive pool which will be the dive flow for all 3 jumps that day. Each team will then perform the moves in the order drawn, executing as many points as possible. The team with the most points wins!

There are two classes to compete in: Intermediate (head up only) and Advanced (head up and head down). Although there are two classes, there will be only one team declared the winner. Scoring is based on the number of points executed on each jump. The total for the 3 jumps will determine the winner.

Cost:
Your slot. Video and debrief are included. If you have your own camera person, the ranch will cover the 3 slots during the competition.

The winners of each competition will receive a free jump courtesy of The Ranch. We are also working with our sponsors to provide some cool prizes for the overall winners of the freefly league.

General Rules
1. Teams consist of two performers and one camera flyer (provided for you if you don't have one)
2. A random draw of three moves will be anounced at 8am the morning of the meet.
3. The performers perform all randoms in the order drawn, and as fast as the performers can accomplish them.
4. Performers continue to repeat all the randoms in the drawn order as many times as working time allows. All points, proper body positions, and complete separations between moves must be clearly shown on video.
5. A grip is defined as stationary contact on the designated location, showing control.
6. The clock starts when any performer on the team, including the camera flyer, releases the aircraft. There is no exit requirement, and scoring begins when the first random is shown to the camera.
7. Exit altitude is 13,500 feet AGL. The team repeats the sequence as often as possible within 35 second working time. In the event of a low ceiling, we will adjust exit altitude and working time so that all performers in a round are scored with the same amount of working time.
8. The total number of points built determines the final score for the round.
9. In the event of a video problem, the average of the other rounds will be used unless a re-jump is requested by the team and can be arranged due to time limitations

Camera Guidelines and Responsibilities:
Since the score depends on judgeable video, the camera flyer must concentrate on maintaining position and framing that best presents the move to the judge. Generally, this will be ninety degrees to the side of the facing pair of performers and on the same level. The Ranch will cover your slot but you are responsible for your pack jobs.

Camera flyers are expected to

  • Perform all three jumps with the team assigned for the day (some camera flyers may work with more than 1 team)
  • Manifest their team for all three jumps
  • Review videos with the judges for scoring Intermediate
